Werder are once again in Zillertal for a pre-season training camp, however this is head coach Ole Werner’s first time in Zell am Ziller. Once arriving in Austria, Werner was excited for the coming days. “My first impression is really positive. The pitch is in really good condition. I’m looking forward to the next few days,” he told WERDER.DE

The Werder players went out on their bikes instead of to the pitch on the first day. Werner explained that this was to stretch their legs after two intense training days in Bremen. Werner and the 29 players have two training sessions lined up on Friday and Abed Nankishi could make his return. According to Werner, Eren Dinkci will probably not return to team training until the beginning of next week. The training plan is regularly updated on WERDER.DE.

Ole Werner’s goals in Zillertal are clear. He wants to refine his game plan and to push his players to their limits. He also wants to use the friendlies against Karlsruhe SC and Besiktas to get his players closer to match fitness and to implement his tactics against an actual opponent.

It isn’t only Ole Werner’s first training camp with the Green-Whites, but it is also his first time in the mountains and he is looking forward to a “special atmosphere” in Zillertal. The 34-year-old coach is also delighted that plenty of Werder fans will be accompanying his team in Zillertal: “It is great that they can be here again this year. There weren’t quite so many over the last couple of years due to Corona.”
