After the 4-0 home win over Aue, spirits are high in Bremen. Ole Werner’s debut went very much according to plan. Schmid and Veljkovic, the two players he brought into the starting eleven, played very well and both scored brilliant goals to give everyone a big boost. But the Green-Whites did not have long to celebrate. On Friday evening (03.12. at 18:30 CET), SV Werder will travel to the Jahnstadion to take on SSV Jahn Regensburg. New Werder coach Ole Werner’s second game in charge will be no easy task, but the trainer has shown himself to be confident and well prepared. “At the start of the week, we looked at goalscoring opportunities and overload situations alongside tactical matters. Against an opponent like Regensburg, we are not going to get a huge number of opportunities to score, which makes it even more important that we make the most of them,” said Werder at his press conference.

Team news: Despite coming out of isolation, there are still question marks over the availability of Nicolai Rapp and Fabio Chiarodia. Mitchell Weiser is back in quarantine and will miss out on Friday, along with Niklas Schmidt, Lars-Lukas Mai and Eren Dinkci who all have Coronavirus. Nick Woltemade is also not an option as he remains in recovery after a foot operation. Abed Nankishi is also unavailable.

Head coach Ole Werner on the opposition: “You have to give Regensburg a lot of credit. They have found players from lower divisions but who are perfectly suited to their style of play. The key for them is that they have known for years now how they want to play. They also have a clear and direct style that combats second balls. The way they transition is among the best in the league. It is important that we remember that, but also that we don’t forget our own strengths.”

An exciting matchup

Last time out: The two teams have played against each other twice before with SV Werder Bremen winning both times in the DFB-Pokal. Last time (07.04.2021), Yuya Osaka made sure of a place in the semi-finals with a wonderful volley.

Current position in the table: Jahn Regensburg have had a great first half of the season so far and sit third ahead of matchweek 17. Werder are in ninth with 23 points, three behind Schalke 04 and HSV.

A goalscorer in fine form: Werder Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug is the man of the moment. Two assists and a goal against Aue was his latest contribution as his fine form continues. “Fülle” has been directly involved in eight of the last ten Werder goals in Bundesliga 2 (five goals, three assists) and has scored in four games in a row.

Regensburg strong at home: SSV Jahn have scored at least twice in each of their last nine home games, a club record in the second division. Next time they score at home, they will equal their tally for the entirety of last season (23).
