…the 4-1 away win at Schalke: “It was a great game with a fantastic atmosphere. Playing against a team like that at a stadium like that is always something special. We played really well and were clinical with our chances. It was a great day overall and we really enjoyed it. It was an extremely important win for us, but we’ve not achieved anything yet. We can’t allow ourselves to get too excited.”
…the short corner routines that led to the first two goals: “We tried to work on this during training and it didn’t actually work that well. We weren’t sure if it would be something we could try in a game. We went with it and I was just free twice. I’m happy that it worked.”
…his cross that Niclas Füllkrug headed in to make it 2-0: “This move was a little different to the first one, when I got the ball from Leonardo Bittencourt and just shot. This time, Marvin Ducksch played a good pass to me and I was closer to goal. I then just wanted to chip it towards the back post. The way it floated towards Niclas was perfect.”
…his improved form: “I think I’m getting better with each game in 2022. The whole team needs to perform and play well, which is what I want to do too. I’m pleased that I’m helping the team.”
…injury setbacks: “It was obviously really disappointing to suffer those injuries because I felt good beforehand. I’m pleased that I could get back fit so quickly and that I’ve built on those performances before I got injured.”
…the 6,200 away fans who travelled to Gelsenkirchen: “It’s always nice to have so many fans supporting us away from home and we got that yesterday. I’m not normally somebody that notices the noise during the game, but I actually did clearly hear our fans at Schalke. That kind of support helps every team and we noticed that on the pitch.”
