Jiri Pavlenka will not take part in the European Championships. The Werder goalkeeper has left the Czech Republic national team camp due to a back injury and will miss the tournament.
“Jiri already had problems in the friendly against Italy, which have not improved in the past few days. The team staff and Jiri then decided together that he should leave the camp and recover at home," explained Werder goalkeeping coach Christian Vander, who is in contact with the 29-year-old.
“Despite all the efforts of the physiotherapists, the pain in my back will not allow me to participate in the European Championships. Taking part in the tournament was a big dream, but at the moment I have to put my personal ambition to one side. I'm very disappointed, but that's part of football. I will keep my fingers crossed for our team,” said Jiri Pavlenka.
The Czech Republic get their tournament underway against Scotland on Monday (14th June). Their other group fixtures are against Croatia (18th June) and England (22nd June).
