And Clemens Fritz had more good news when he spoke to the media at the start of the week. Davie Selke (thigh injury) and Leonardo Bittencourt (ankle injury) returned to team training on Monday alongside Ömer Toprak, who was benched in the DFB-Pokal against Hannover out of caution.
Niclas Füllkrug’s extra work over the Christmas period has paid off. The striker should return to some training with the team on Tuesday. “We’ll wait and see how he gets on over the next two days and how he copes with it. It’s not impossible that he’ll be in the squad at the weekend,” said Fritz about the 27-year-old.
Central defender Marco Friedl, who was missing before Christmas due to a thigh problem, should also return to training this week. Milot Rashica, however, will continue to work individually on his comeback. “Everything’s going to plan and we’re pleased for him,” said Fritz.
