An important win in more ways than one for the Green Whites. The 5-1 win takes them level on points with Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga table and just one goal behind on goal difference. “We’ve shown that we can perform under pressure, but nothing’s won yet,” said Florian Kohfeldt ahead of the final three games of the season.
Davy Klaassen: “We started well, we put them under pressure and won lots of the ball. We didn’t allow them many chances in the first half and took our chances. The result makes it look a lot easier, but it was a hard-fought win. We struggled a bit just after half time, we didn’t play well during this period. It wasn’t the best second half.”
Niclas Füllkrug: “It was a tough fight, even though the result doesn’t reflect that. We had to give everything today, in all areas of the pitch. There were lots of duels in midfield. In the end it was a deserved win, even if we struggled a bit at the start of the second half.”
Florian Kohfeldt: “It was a good away performance. There was a lot of pressure on us but we fought and played well. Five goals is really good for us. I'm delighted that we could pick up such a convincing win and that we created a lot more chances than we have done recently. The last few weeks have been difficult. We see ourselves as an attacking team but that hasn’t worked. It was crucial that we kept going after the missed penalty and scored the goal.”
Davy Klaassen: “It was an all-or-nothing game for both teams. We’ve shown that we’re still fighting to stay up. In terms of the results, it was a perfect afternoon.”
Niclas Füllkrug: “The win was extremely important. We’ve also improved our goal difference. I hope that we can build up some momentum. I think we’ll stay up.”
Florian Kohfeldt: “The team can enjoy it until we get back off the bus in Bremen. We’re still in an automatic relegation position. Nothing’s done yet. But we can take away from the game that we can perform under pressure. We’ve got Bayern next on Tuesday. That will be difficult enough.”
Davy Klaassen: “It’s really good for him. He was out for such a long time. To come back from this injury and score makes us all really happy. He’s deserved it.”
Niclas Füllkrug: “It was really nice, it was a really emotional moment for me. Considering where I’ve been for the past nine months, it was a really special moment for me. I’m glad that the team made it easy for me and had already established a small lead. It allowed me to play more freely. It was a reward for me which I’ve earnt over a long time.”
Florian Kohfeldt: “I’m really pleased for him that he got his reward straight away after being injured for such a long time. We’ve known each other for a while now. It’s great that he’s back. Now he can help us survive.”
