Werder are back from the winter break! The Green-Whites had their first training session of the New Year on Thursday afternoon and on Friday morning at 9:00 CET, the plane will take off for Palma de Mallorca. Josh Sargent, Ömer Toprak and Ludwig Augustinsson will be on board amongst the 28 players heading to the Balearic island.

The trio are returning after their respective periods of recovery. While Sargent and Toprak will join in with the training sessions in full, Augustinsson will make his return to team training gradually. Kevin Möhwald, Theodor Gebre Selassie and Niclas Füllkrug will, however, not be travelling to the island and will continue their rehab work in Bremen. “Even if it’s only ten days, we’ll get into a good rhythm. We’ll play a lot of practice matches, including lots of 11-a-side,” says head coach Florian Kohfeldt ahead of the trip.

The experienced Claudio Pizarro will fly direct to Mallorca and join training. From the youth teams, Simon Straudi, Ilia Gruev, Nick Woltemade, David Philipp and Julian Rieckmann will also travel to the nine-day training camp. The Green-Whites will complete their first training session on RCD Mallorca’s training grounds.
