Ole Käuper: It couldn’t have been a worse start of the season for Carl Zeiss Jena, who took the lead early in the second half, before defender Marian Sarr scored two own goals within 12 minutes as his side fell to a 2-1 defeat against FC Ingolstadt. Käuper played the full 90 minutes for Jena in defensive midfield.
Thore Jacobsen: The 22-year-old didn’t make an appearance in 1. FC Magdeburg’s opening game, where they were defeated 4-2 by Eintracht Braunschweig. Ex-Werder player Martin Kobylanski scored a hat-trick on his way to winning player of the match. Left back Jacobsen was named on the bench but did not enter the game in which his side’s centre back (and ex-Weder player) Björn Rother as well as assistant coach Silvio Bankert both picked up red cards.
Jannes Vollert: As Hallescher lost 1-0 to Uerdingen, the centre back was subbed on in the 67th minute when he replaced attacker Florian Hansch. Vollert had come under criticism ahead of the game after the club’s 3-0 friendly loss to Erfurt and was subsequently replaced by Sebastian Mai in the starting XI.
Jean-Manunel Mbom: Appearing in the same fixture,Mbom was this time on the winning side, as his Uerdingen were able to celebrate the victory. The 19-year-old played 55 minutes in attacking midfield and also contributed his fair share in defence against a tough opponent.
