SV Werder Bremen have made a deadline-day signing, securing the services of midfielder Leonardo Bittencourt. The 25-year-old joins on a one-year loan from TSG Hoffenheim.
“Leonardo has been on our radar for a while and we were already interested in signing him last year, so we’re delighted that we have been able to bring him in now, especially given the personnel situation in the squad at the moment,” said Werder sporting director Frank Baumann.
Florian Kohfeldt is also looking forward to having Bittencourt on board. “Leo was one of our transfer targets last season too. He’s a technically-gifted player and can play both in attacking midfield and out wide. He has a lot of Bundesliga experience and can add quality to our play in the final third,” said the coach.
Bittencourt is also excited to begin life at Bremen. “I’m delighted it’s all sorted. Werder is a great family club. I got to know Frank Baumann and Florian Kohfeldt last year already and we were on the same page very quickly. I can’t wait to get started here,” said the new signing.
Leonardo Bittencourt has made 151 Bundesliga appearances to date for Borussia Dortmund, Hannover 96, 1. FC Köln and TSG Hoffenheim, scoring 18 goals.
