It is the outcome that frustrated head coach Florian Kohfeldt the most in Zillertal. In the opening minute of Werder’s friendly against WSG Swarovski Tirol, Theodor Gebre Selassie was injured after coming off second best from a duel and had to be monitored. “We still have to keep an eye on him,” said the head coach after training on Wednesday morning.

The 32-year-old was able to take part in athletic and conditional sessions in training but had to sit out of the match situations, instead training individually. “The negative thing is we have to remove him for the more intense drills to avoid taking any risks, said Kohfeldt. “We are carrying out neurological tests every day and they’ve shown that he hasn’t reached the right level yet, but we’re close.” For the head coach, the important thing is whether his defender will be able to return to full training after the interwetten Cup, when Kohfeldt wants to up the training intensity.

Langkamp returns, short break for Beijmo and Augustinsson

Back in action is Sebastian Langkamp, who is doing ball work and “should join the team in Grassau”. Felix Beijmo, who missed Tuesday’s session, will return to training by the weekend at the latest, whilst teammate Ludwig Augustinsson is expected back by Friday. According to Kohfeldt, the Swede picked up a minor problem during the friendly against Darmstadt 98 and will sit out of training for the coming days.
