In the first game against Nürnberg, he dropped from the squad shortly before the game. Kevin Möhwald’s first appearance against his former club would have to wait. “It was one of the most difficult decisions, but I made it because of footballing reasons. Philipp Bargfrede picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Frankfurt last time out, and so will miss the game in Nürnberg this weekend (Saturday 2nd February, 15:30 CET). Florian Kohfeldt will have to choose someone to come in to replace him, with Nuri Sahin and Kevin Möhwald the main candidates.
Möhwald will definitely play an important role this week, with games against Nürnberg and FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga and Borussia Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal. Kohfeldt is sure that Möhwald has “developed and will get a lot of playing time in the next week.”
The summer signing has come a long way in the last six months and is now a certainty in the Werder matchday squad. On who will start this Saturday, Kohfeldt said: “It depends on our tactical plan.” However, Möhwald has a clear message: “I want to play against Nürnberg. But if I don’t play and we get three points, I’ll still be happy.”
