“We have always said that we were trying to work together with Sambou to find a reasonable solution. We found that solution through Royal Antwerp. They are an ambitious club full of tradition, who achieved promotion back to the Belgian top flight last season. We wish Sambou every success for the future,” Werder’s sporting director, Frank Baumann said.
Sambou Yatabare, who played 10 times for Werder in the Bundesliga (1 goal), has moved to the oldest Belgian football club (founded 1880). Royal, who also have former Werder player Jelle van Damme on their books, have won four league titles and two cups, but from 2005 until their promotion at the end of last season, they played in the second division.
