New yet well established: Thomas Delaney has been trusted to wear the captain’s armband. “It feels totally natural,” he says. The Dane could take to the field as captain in his first competitive match for Werder on Saturday after just eight months at SVW. He will, in all probability, replace Zlatko Junuzovic and Niklas Moisander who are both currently sidelined due to injury. “I’m very proud of my progress here. It’s an honour for me,” says Delaney. At Copenhagen, the midfielder was named as team captain at only 22 years old and donned the captain’s armband in both the Champions League and Europa League. It’s a role he takes in his stride. “I’ve always been your captain,” joked Delaney recently in a YouTube video with ex-Copenhagen and now-Werder teammate Ludwig Augustinsson at the training camp. That is true for Werder’s opening Pokal match at least.
