After defeating 1860 München in the first of two back-to-back friendlies on Wednesday evening, head coach Viktor Skripnik's side then beat a Tirol XI 4-0. Both games will have given the coaching staff a good idea of the current fitness and performance level of all the Werder players.

Line-up and formation: Florian Grillitsch was the only player who took part in the previous game against 1860 to also feature in the second match. The Austrian was introduced against the "Löwen" at half time, and also played the first 45 minutes against the Tirol XI. Skripnik opted for a centre-back pairing of Assani Lukimya and Alejandro Gálvez, whilst Izet Hajrovic and Fin Bartels started up front. Academy keeper Eric Oelschlägel started in goal. Werder played with just ten men in the second half after Levent Aycicek was unable to continue due to a thigh problem.

Levin Öztunali opened the scoring for Werder in the 11th minute - the ball fell to him after a scramble on the edge of the Tirol penalty area and he fired home to put the Green-Whites 1-0 up. Tirol then went close a few minutes later with Oelschlägel forced into a good save, but Werder were able to double their lead 20 minutes in, when Cedrick Makiadi slotted the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards out.

The goals kept on coming for the Bundesliga side as Izet Hajrovic made up for an earlier miss by netting Werder's third. Florian Grillitsch then sealed a 'brace', volleying home his second goal of the day when he a Hajrovic cross found him unmarked at the back post. Werder went into half time 4-0 up and in total control.

Florian Grillitsch was given a well-deserved rest by coach Skripnik after completing 90 minutes over the two games. His was the only change made at half time by Werder, but the Green-Whites were also forced to play without Levent Aycicek, as the Austrian was sidelined with thigh trouble. Tirol were unable to make their one-man advantage count, with substitute goalkeeper Tom Pachulski only forced into one piece of action during the second half. The young keeper acrobatically tipped a header from Tirol striker Angerer over the bar to ensure a clean sheet for the Green-Whites.

Werder totally deserved their 4-0 win, limiting the Tirol XI to very few clear-cut chances. Viktor Skripnik declared himself pleased with the day's work. "They were two good games, but we know there's still a lot of work to be done. There's about a month to go until the season begins, so we won't be overplaying these results." said the boss. "Levent Aycicek was unfortunately unable to continue due to a thigh problem and Philipp Bargfrede had to be substituted after he injured his knee."
