Werder Bremen's tour of Erfurt ended Thursday evening 14 July 2011 with a 0-0 draw against Chemnitz as Thomas Schaaf's team once again faced a strong third division side after their 2-1 win over Rot-Weiß Erfurt.
Bremen faced an encouraged Chemnitz side from the very beginning of the match. But Schaaf saw good elements in Werder's game. "You could see that we have worked hard this week, especially on conditioning. We are still missing the fine-tuning. But that will still take a while," said Schaaf. "We haven't played very often in this constellation. That's why we needed most of the first half to really get into the match. In the second half it was a better game for both teams, who both tried to score a goal. All told, it was an entertaining match and once again a good test for us to test our level of performance. We still have plenty ahead of us."
In front of 6,205 spectators at the grounds on Gellerstraße, Chemnitz controlled the run of play and Werder were lucky in the sixth minute as the ball went off the post. The Green-Whites found their way into the game after about 20 minutes but missed some chances by Philipp Bargfrede, Aaron Hunt and Markus Rosenberg. Neither team would end of scoring and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
