SV Werder Bremen leave Wolfsburg on the back of a heavy 6-0 defeat. An unlucky own goal from Alejandro Gálvez meant that the Green-Whites went behind early on, and whilst Fritz, Bartels & Co. tried their utmost to turn the game around, but they struggled against their efficient opponents and were unable to take anything from the game.

Team news: Both Werder captain Clemens Fritz and Florian Grillitsch returned to the team from injury. Luca-Milan Zander came in at right back to replace the injured Theodor Gebre Selassie, making his starting debut in the Bundesliga, but the line-up was otherwise unchanged.

Werder go behind to early own goal

3': Wiedwald called into action for the first time. Vieirinha lets fly from the right-hand side of the area but the Werder 'keeper parries it away.

10': Fritz wins the ball in midfield and feeds Bartels, who tries to pull the ball back to Ujah in the area, but Wolfsburg are able to clear.

11' Wolfsburg goal. Träsch fires a low cross into the area and Gálvez tries to clear, but he only succeeds in turning the ball into his own net, beating Wiedwald from close range.

13': The Green-Whites react immediately. Junuzovic is set free in the penalty area and passes to Ujah, who shoots first time. However, his shot is cleared away by Naldo.

27': Schäfer's cross finds the unmarked Luiz Gustavo, whose header comes back off the post with Wiedwald well beaten.

39': Fin Bartels tries his luck from distance, and Benaglio has to get down very quickly to parry the shot away.

44': Wolfsburg goal. An in-swinging Vieirinha free kick is met by a glancing header from Max Kruse, and his touch is enough to beat Wiedwald as the ball nestles in the far corner.

45': Werder have a free kick at the other end of the pitch. Junuzovic's cross finds Vestergaard in the area, but his header lacks accuracy.

Wiedwald to the rescue several times but Wolfsburg run riot

51': Marcel Schäfer lets fly from long range and Wiedwald saves, but he can't hold on and Vestergaard clears for a corner.

52': The resulting corner finds the head of Dante and Wiedwald is called into action once again to deny a third goal for the hosts.

56': Wolfsburg goal. Schäfer delivers from the wing once again and this time Vieirinha is on hand to arrive unmarked at the far post and fire past Wiedwald.

66': Huge save from Wiedwald. Kruse crosses to Schürrle, who has just come as a substitute. His powerful header is only kept out by a superb reaction save.

67': Wolfsburg goal. This time Schürrle delivers the cross, and Guilavogui is the man on the end of it to score Wolfsburg's fourth.

68': Pizarro finds Bartels with a fine pass, who shoots at Benaglio. Ujah tries to turn in the rebound, but misses the target.

78': Goal for Wolfsburg. Kruse squares the ball across the face of the area, and Bas Dost has the simple task of slotting into the empty net.

82': Wiedwald is called into action once again. Schürrle is through one-on-one but can't beat the Werder stopper.

87': Wolfsburg goal. Schürrle beats his man and squares for Kruse, who has an easy finish.

90+3': Full time. Werder suffer a 6-0 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg.

Summary: Both teams played with intensity from the very start. Werder went behind to an unfortunate goal early on and weren't allowed any real chances to get back in the game. By contrast, Wolfsburg were clinical in front of goal, and the game was effectively over with the third goal.
