Werder Bremen came up with a strong performance on the 13th match day of the Bundesliga, winning their home match against SC Paderborn 4-0. Zlatko Junuzovic, Davie Selke, Fin Bartels and Levent Aycicek scored the goals for the Green-Whites, who jumped from 18th on the table to 14th with their third victory in the last four matches.
Four changes
Werder head coach Viktor Skripnik made four changes to his starting line-up as Sebastian Prödl played for Assani Lukimya at centre back; debutant Janek Sternberg started at leftback for the suspended Santiago Garcia; Aycicek for Clemens Fritz, who was also suspended; and Selke played for Nils Petersen.
Early lead
Werder started very concentrated and pressured the guests from Paderborn with some fine passing. Selke had the first good chance in the sixth minute, hitting the ball past Paderborn keeper Lukas Kruse but Florian Hartherz cleared at the line. The Green-Whites took the lead four minutes later as Junuzovic curled a free kick from 28 yards into the upper left corner to make it 1-0. Werder were the better team at Weser Stadium and had the next chance after 22 minutes, with Selke's shot getting stopped by Kruse. Bartels was close 120 seconds later but was off target. Werder kept up their concentration and didn't allow many chances on defence, going into the break with a deserved 1-0 advantage.

Skripnik's team came up with a great start to the second half and made it 2-0 in the 48th minute as Selke got to a rebounded shot and headed home. Bartels increased the lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute as Kruse's clearance attempt went directly to Bartels, who took advantage of the opportunity to decide the game for good. Aycicek just missed adding a fourth goal in the 52nd minute, shooting wide from 17 yards out. Sternberg attempted his luck from long range in the 59th minute but Kruse was able to stop the shot.
Aycicek adds fourth goal
With the big lead, Bremen took the pedal off the gas and were never really challenged by the promoted team. Aycicek used a mistake by the Paderborn defence to make it 4-0 in the 80th minute, striking a fine shot from 13 yards out into the left corner for Skripnik's team.
