"It is a derby!" Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf doesn't need to say anything else to express the importance of the up-coming Bundesliga match-up between Werder and Hamburg Saturday night 10 September 2011 at 6:30 p.m.

Thomas Schaaf: "Bring out the something special"
"We have once again found the football that we can play and now we need to put together a run and bring out the something special to improve our strengths in the development process," said Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf ahead of the derby against Hamburg. After the departure of Per Mertesacker, Clemens Fritz will have the honour of leading the team onto the pitch as captain. "He totally identifies himself with his duties. He has been around long enough and done a good job over the years. This challenge does him good," said Schaaf.

Hamburg want only one thing: Get out of last place
Hamburg are last in the league with their poor start of just one point in four games in the new season. The team has struggled the whole year. "You can excel in a derby, and Hamburg have the chance of doing a lot of good from their poor position," said Schaaf. Hamburg coach Michael Oenning knows exactly what he wants to accomplish. "We absolutely want to get out of last place," said the 45-year-old. There is plenty at stake early on with the 95th North Derby. "We have experienced many great derbies, with everything that makes football so wonderful. The match-up always sparks emotions. But what's important is that we play well," said Schaaf.
