Werder Bremen played to a 1-1 draw against Schalke in sold-out Weser Stadium on the 30th game day of the German Bundesliga. Thomas Schaaf's team remained undefeated for the seventh straight match and improved to a six-point gap of the relegation zone. Sandro Wagner gave Werder the lead and Edu equalised for Schalke.

The 40,500 spectators at Weser Stadium saw a weak and nervous first half from both teams as the first 45 minutes lacked in real highlights. Werder had the first chance in the 14th minute as Claudio Pizarro took a pass from Tim Borowski but could not beat Manuel Neuer. The Green-Whites were lucky in the 25th minute as Raul headed directly into the arms of Tim Wiese, failing to give his team the lead. And the teams went into the break dead-locked at 0-0.

After the half, both teams had one chance after the next in what became an excellent match. In the 59th minute Pizarro was fouled in the Schalke box and the referee ruled a penalty for the Green-Whites. Wagner's penalty attempt was stopped by Schalke's keeper but the rebound was struck home by Wagner for a 1-0 Werder lead.

But Schaaf's team could not hold the lead long as Schalke knotted the game 1-1 in the 63rd minute with Edu heading home a cross from the right side past Wiese. Julian Draxler nearly gave Schalke the lead in the 66th minute but the youngster could not capitalize on his opportunity. In the 73rd minute, Edu blasted off the Werder post and the Green-Whites could not use their chances in the final stretch as the game ended 1-1.
