Werder Bremen scored two late goals to make up a 2-0 deficit to secure a 2-2 draw in Sunday's home game against Bayer Leverkusen and pick up an important point in the fight against relegation. On the 24th game day, Eren Derdiyok and Simon Rolfes scored for Leverkusen before Stefan Kießling (own goal) and Sebastian Prödl tallied in the final seven minutes for the draw at Weser Stadium.

Werder coach Thomas Schaaf made a number of changes, starting with Tim Wiese back in goal. In addition, Tim Borowski replaced the suspended Torsten Frings while Claudio Pizarro replaced Marko Arnautovic in attack and Sandro Wagner and Florian Trinks took the places of Marko Marin and Aaron Hunt.

The spectators at Weser Stadium saw an intensive game from the very beginning with Werder creating the first chance in the 11th minute as Trinks got past Arturo Vidal but missed just wide from seven yards. Borowski missed a chance to give Bremen the lead in the 19th minute missing from 14 yards. And Borowski was stopped by Leverkusen keeper Rene Adler in the 26th minute.

Borowski had to leave the game injured after 37 minutes for Hunt and Werder saw Leverkusen take the lead 1-0 two minutes before the break on a corner kick. Derdiyok jumped the highest and nodded home the 1-0 Leverkusen lead at half-time.

Werder fought hard to equalise early in the second half. But Leverkusen did not give up any ground. Marin entered the game for Philipp Bargfrede at the hour mark. But Leverkusen doubled their advantage just seven minutes later. After a corner, Rolfes blasted home from eight yards out to make it 2-0 for Bayer.

Werder refused to give up and tried their best to turn around the game many thought was lost. But when Kießling's clearance attempt in front of Per Mertesacker went into his own goal in the 83rd minute to make it 2-1, Werder pushed forward with even more motivation. And then Leverkusen's Vidal was booked a second time in the 87th minute for a yellow-red card. And Werder's efforts were rewarded in stoppage time as Hunt's cross in the 91st minute found Prödl and the Austrian nodded home the 2-2 equaliser, sending Weser Stadium into one collective celebration.
