Zillertal, we're back! SV Werder have set up tent in the Austrian Alps for the third time and will use the coming days to prepare for the up-coming season in Zell am Ziller.
The Green-Whites checked into Posthotel at 2:45 p.m. and the first training session was scheduled for just a short time later - as usual under excellent conditions. "It was very warm here today but once again we have good conditions this year. The grounds are in a good condition and the hotel where we are staying for the first time is also good," said head coach Robin Dutt, who also said he was satisfied with the first some 100 minutes of training in Austria. "That was a very intensive session but the guys really went along excellently," said the coach.
Manager Thomas Eichin, Dutt and the coaching staff are keeping a special eye on new acquisition Izet Hajrovic, who went through his first session with his new teammates. "It was certainly very strenuous. That was the first real training for me since the World Cup. It was good to be back on the pitch again and get to know the players, the coach and the whole team. So far, everything is great. I am satisfied," said Werder's new No. 14.
Bargfrede, Yildirim and Akpala work out individually
Not yet back with their teammates but also with the team in Austria were Philipp Bargfrede, Özkan Yildirim and Joseph Akpala, the latter who returned for the first time after being on loan in Turkey and suffering a major ankle injury. "The three are all in rehab training, going through a special program made up of stability and coordination drills as well as cycling," said Dutt. The three players will go through the odd drill with the whole team in Zillertal. "We planned two or three events but don't want to give everything away right away - I can only say that there is hardly a free minute on the schedule," said Dutt.
The next training session for Garcia, Fritz and Co. is planned for Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
