Werder talents Cimo Röcker and Özkan Yildirim displayed their potential in the test match against VfL Wolfsburg and new acquisition Mateo Pavlovic was also convincing. Head coach Thomas Schaaf praised all three of the players.
"Cimo played very motivated as left back. He did a good job defensively in one-on-one situations and also pushed his way forward," said the Werder coach about the 18-year-old. "Of course, not everything was right but he really went after it."
The Bremen coach also praised the one half of action by Yildirim. "We had to wait a very long time for Özi," said Schaaf about the 16-month injury layoff for Yildirim. "He needed two or three minutes but we are very happy to have him back. We have to make sure we get him more appearances."
Pavlovic has also worked hard since his transfer to the Green-Whites as the Croatian celebrated his Werder debut yesterday. "I am very satisfied with the performance of the team and that fact that we won. The title proves that we worked hard and shows that we can keep going," said the 22-year-old. Schaaf was pleased with the 1.96m centre back's showing. "He has confirmed what I said at his introduction - that we have acquired a talented defender who can help us. He did a solid job today and can be satisfied with his debut," said the coach. Pavlovic was glad to hear the coach's praise, saying: "That is more motivation looking towards the future."
