Goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald is leaving Werder Bremen and transferring to second division side MSV Duisburg. The clubs agreed to the final details Wednesday morning and then announced the transfer.
"We see the departure of Felix with a weeping eye because we think he is an excellent goalkeeper. But he would like playing time with the professionals in the future and with the current constellation with Tim Wiese, Sebastian Mielitz and Christian Vander chances are slim. We accepted his wish and made a transfer possible," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs. After passing his physical, Wiedwald will sign a three-year contract with Duisburg.
Wiedwald leaves Werder after 12 years. He transferred to the Green-Whites in 1999 from TSV Achim. The keeper made his senior side debut on 26 September 2009 and the 21-year-old played 39 matches for Werder's second team. Last season he was on the professional squad a number of times as reserve keeper. The Thedinghauser native also played once for Germany's U20 national team, entering in the second half against Austria on 13 November 2009.
