Things are heading into the final week - two test matches and three training sessions before the summer break. Werder players completed a lactate test Monday morning to check their fitness level. All told, 17 players ran laps on the track around the Platz 11 grounds. The players were observed as in previous tests by a five-person team from the sports medicine institute at the University of Paderborn.

Not on hand was Petri Pasanen as the Finnish international has been back in his homeland since the weekend to rest a couple days before heading to the Finnish national team for their World Cup qualifier in San Marino. The Finns play four days later on 7 June 2011 against Sweden in Solna.

Wesley and Marko Marin also did not take part in the running session. Marin, who picked up an ankle injury from the test match in Minden, is questionable for the game Tuesday evening in Verden. Wesley is currently dealing with an ankle problem as well. Sandro Wagner meanwhile completed the lactate test with his teammates without any pain.
