While head coach Thomas Schaaf was back on the training grounds, Aaron Hunt and Sokratis were still not at team training on Wednesday. Schaaf returned from his short trip to London to scout Werder's up-coming opponents Bayern Munich. But Hunt and Sokratis remained too sick to train with the team. "Aaron was able to at least run a little bit. Pappas is not far enough just yet," said Schaaf, who had to do without both players against Freiburg.
"I feel better but it's not good enough yet to get back into training," said a sniffling Sokratis, who has been battling a tough cold for more than a week. Hunt meanwhile has been sidelined since Friday. "We hope that Aaron can train with the team again tomorrow. But I would say that neither will be ready for the Munich match," said Schaaf looking forward to the Saturday match against Bayern.
Schaaf had a rather small training group anyhow since about half of the players appeared in the test match victory against Eintracht Braunschweig and went through a cool-down run. One of the players running was Özkan Yildirim, who was subbed out at halftime of the 2-0 win for cautionary measures after receiving a knock on his knee. The move paid off as he was without pain on Wednesday.
