Fewer barriers between the youth teams and professional squad, good training - that's what Robin Dutt's coaching staff called for when they took over in order to best possibly support SV Werder's concept and continue to develop it.

And this week Dutt offered some interesting insight into the practical implementation of those goals. "We therefore also wanted to reduce the size of the roster so that we continually had the possibility to test two or three of our own talents and work them in with the professionals. This is a fixed part of my work and therefore my training philosophy," said Dutt. Werder's director for professional football and scouting Frank Baumann agreed. "In the last couple weeks the guys have deserved their chance through their performances with the U19s and U23s to take part in the professional training and until now they have done a very good job and embraced it very, very much," said Baumann.

The latest examples of this talent rotation this week are U23 offensive force Martin Kobylanski and U19 striker talent Florian Grillitsch. Before that, Marcel Hilßner, Oliver Hüsing and Melvyn Lorenzen had all taken part in professional training. But this introductory training with the professionals is not a free ride. "Fundamentally, it's important that coach and we inform the players that they are with the professionals to take advantage of their chance. We think that one or two guys could scratch the surface of the professional team and make the jump. Still, it means almost more for us to show the players how they are to act and present themselves when they return to their U-teams. They have to continue to give their all there and want to showcase themselves there again," said Baumann.
