Werder keeper Richard Strebinger will head into the summer break with a tournament victory as the 20-year-old guided the Austrian U21 national team to the title at a four-nation tourney in Ukraine. Austria beat the host side 1-0 in the final last Wednesday 5 June 2013 with Toni Vastic scoring the goal. "Strebe" kept his sheet clean over the full 90 minutes.

"I am really very happy about this success. It's the first title for an Austrian U21 team. Even if it's an unofficial honor, I am thrilled about it," said the Werder keeper after the final victory. In addition to the tournament trophy, Strebinger also received a personal award as he was named the best goalkeeper of the event.

Just about the same time, Werder striker Joseph Akpala was playing for Nigeria and helped earn a 2-2 draw in a friendly against Mexico last Saturday 1 June 2013. The 26-year-old played 45 minutes but was subbed out at halftime in favour of Anthony Ujah from Cologne. Akpala did not play in Nigeria's World Cup qualifier in Kenya on Wednesday, when Nigeria won 1-0.

Akpala has another chance to play this Wednesday 12 June 2013 when Nigeria take on Namibia in a World Cup 2014 qualifier. If Nigeria win and Malawi are not victorious, then the Super Eagles would book a spot at least in the playoff matches.
