Werder talent Davie Selke won the European championship about a month ago with the German U19 national team. With six goals, the 19-year-old was the tournament's scoring champion. Accordingly, U20 national team coach Frank Wormuth would have liked to have nominated the striker for the international matches against Italy and Switzerland. But Selke remained in Bremen to train with the Green-Whites.
"Davie is currently really close to the team and should use the time to practice with the professionals. That's why he wasn't asked to come to the U20s after talks with the DFB," said head coach Robin Dutt. Selke played in the German DFB Cup and both Bundesliga matches this season. He even celebrated his starting debut in the home match against Hoffenheim.
