Werder's victory against Augsburg was so close but Augsburg captain Paul Verhaegh's last second goal robbed the Green-Whites of their plans for three points. "We are all very saddened. We absolutely wanted the three points. But it in the end it didn't work out," said a visibly disappointed Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf. "You could tell with the guys right after the final whistle that they were disappointed with the result and aggravated by the late equalizer which we could have avoided. We were not well engaged there."

The reaction to the match:
Klaus Allofs:
"We had problems finding our game in the first half. In the second half this young team fought sensationally well thanks to the great support of the fans and deservedly went ahead and created some good chances."

Tom Trybull:
"We had our problems in the first half with our game. But we were much better thereafter and pushed a bit harder and deserved to take the lead. The goal we conceded is very bitter for us and the spectators."

Clemens Fritz:
"We had problems getting into the game. The coach found the right words at half-time. After the break we were better at finding free space and did a good job pressuring them. We should have added the 2-0 goal right away thereafter."

Sokratis:
"Look at FC Barcelona. When the Spaniards have to deal with missing 10 or 11 players who had been long time starters then they would have enormous problems as well. The next games will be very difficult. The Europa League is very meaningful for us. But it's in danger right now."
