Werder Bremen's short training camp in Thuringia ended Thursday morning with a team training in Erfurt while centre back Naldo moved to the next phase of his comeback attempt in Bremen. The Brazilian trained for the first time with teammates on the side grounds at Weser Stadium since returning to Germany from his homeland on Wednesday.
Naldo ran some laps along with Sebastian Prödl and Claudio Pizarro. "We completed the first interval runs and then went through some drills in the weight room. I didn't have any pain. I hope that it stays like that," said Naldo. Head coach Thomas Schaaf was kept up to date about everything from Bremen training camp in Erfurt. "Those were the first attempts. We will increase the stress step by step. But a return to team training for Naldo is not really in the foreseeable future," said Schaaf.
The running was a positive for Prödl. "Every little success is good for the self confidence of any player. I have been on the pitch with our fitness trainer Benni Kugel for the past two weeks. Claudio Pizarro has been there since yesterday and today it was Naldo. Now we are a small training group," said Prödl. Also in that group is Tim Wiese, who has nearly overcome his gastro intestinal infection.
