In the end, the team advanced. It was hard work for Assani Lukimya and Co. in Illertissen and you could tell the relief on all the Green-Whites' players after the final whistle. "In the cup, all that matters is advancing, it doesn't matter how," said Lukimya after the 3-2 victory in extra time against the Regionalliga fourth division team.

The Congolese defender scored a header early in the 30 minutes of extra time to lead SV Werder to the victory. "After my goal, I wasn't relieved because I knew that it would still be difficult. But then we shut down after the 3-1 score. That was too early," said the centre back a bit dissatisfied. Head coach Robin Dutt and the rest of the team gave a honest reaction to the match.

Cedrick Makiadi: "It's a big relief. After a good start, we failed to add the second goal. The equaliser gave Illertissen extra energy. Then it turned into a typical cup fight. In the end, we are through. We are very happy about that and that is most important."

Robin Dutt: "I know that we cannot expect any praise for advancing but elimination would have had devastating effects. At the end of the day, we are just happy that we advanced. Today was not about a lack of will but that the head wasn't clear. We took the opponents very seriously. That was good too, otherwise it probably would have gone terribly wrong. We shouldn't overestimate the game. Expectations for the Bundesliga are entirely different."

Izet Hajrovic: "We are pretty relieved. That was a very difficult match. It's not easy in the cup. We really had to give our all but luckily it worked out and we moved into the next round. That is a positive sign for the new Bundesliga season."

Zlatko Junuzovic: "We are relieved but of course we are not satisfied. We left the game too open and let them get back into it. I am happy that we advanced. It could have gone differently. That's in the back of your mind but I don't want to think about it at all."
