Santiago Garcia's header for a 2-1 lead, Raphael Wolf's stopped penalty and Nils Petersen's goal to make it 3-1 - the final minutes of Werder's win over Hoffenheim had plenty to offer. It was truly an emotional rollercoaster with a happy end for Werder.

The celebrations were accordingly wild when referee Bastian Dankert blew the final whistle. Bremen coach Robin Dutt stormed onto the pitch while the players on the pitch and the fans in the stands hugged one another. "That was an extremely important victory and a huge step on the road to staying in the league," said Aaron Hunt. "We really got a massive burden off our backs today. There were a lot of emotions involved and we are very happy that we could win this difficult match. The 90 minutes were a reflection of the season," added the deputy captain.

WERDER.DE collected what other protagonists said to the important home match and why Werder cannot yet celebrate staying in the league.

Robin Dutt: "Hoffenheim were very strong today. We were very aggressive going after the ball and won important challenges. But that also cost us a lot of energy. But by winning the ball, we were able to bridge the pitch, get some good counter attacks and force Hoffenheim to work 50, 60 meters further back. That was very important. Our feelings in the last 10 minutes were all over the place. It went back and forth. We are happy that we won."

Thomas Eichin: "We are happy for the team when they are rewarded for playing their style of football. The things we worked on in training this week were well implemented. We are all happy about that. Now we have 36 points and created some space in the table."

Aaron Hunt: "I think it could be enough but there are still some games to play. But we did our job, taking a big step with this victory. We are 98 percent through."

Franco Di Santo: "We had luck on our side. I believe we had a good match. God decided in our favour today and rewarded us for our performance."
