Nils Petersen is back on the Bremen pitch. The tall striker had his first rehab drills on the grounds Tuesday morning. He went through inclined runs and minor drills with the ball. The most important part of it all was that the striker went through the drills without any pain after the partial tear of a left knee ligament. But Werder fans should not get their hopes up that Petersen will be able to play in the Green-Whites' next home match against Mainz on Sunday 24 November 2013 at 5:30 p.m.
"Nils would need a miracle healing if he were to play against Mainz. But that is unrealistic. He is not really a possibility for the squad," said head coach Robin Dutt about Petersen's chances of playing against Mainz.
The striker himself is just happy to be back on the pitch and go through the first drills. "I have been out now for three weeks and of course I need to catch up on my conditional deficits which you can make up with running drills like today. I would most like to play all the way through soon but now it's all about increasing the burden bit by bit," said Petersen.
While Petersen did not participate in the afternoon team training, two "new" players from the U23 team took part in Torben Rehfeldt and Janek Sternberg. Dutt said after the session that both players will also be in professional training on Wednesday. The coach did not say if they will be on hand Thursday and Friday.
