Ludovic Obraniak is transferring with immediate effect from the reigning France cup winners Girondins Bordeaux to SV Werder. The clubs agreed to the transfer of the 29-year-old offensive midfielder Friday afternoon. The Polish international Obraniak signed a contract with the Green-Whites for two and a half years until 30 June 2016.

"We are very happy that we could convince Ludovic to transfer to SV Werder. We think quite highly of him. He has a lot of experience and was a really important player for Girondins. We have added a good offensive midfielder for our team," said Werder manager Thomas Eichin about the transfer.

Head coach Robin Dutt was also visibly excited about the move. "Ludovic has a strong left foot. I think he feels most comfortable in the offensive midfield and can also play out on the wings. He will strengthen our offensive game," said Dutt.

Obraniak grew up in the FC Metz youth ranks, debuting there in 2002 in the Ligue 1 and playing 99 matches in five years while scoring five goals. From Metz, Obraniak moved to OSC Lille in 2007 and then went on to Girondins Bordeaux in January 2012. He helped Girondins to the cup crown last season.

The Longeville-lès-Metz native holds both a French and Polish passport. He debuted in the Polish national team in August 2009 in a 2-0 win over Greece, scoring both goals in the match. Obraniak has since earned 32 caps, playing in all three of the first round matches at the 2012 European Championship in his home country under national team coach Franciszek Smuda.

The new acquisition will not play in SV Werder's up-coming away match on Saturday in Augsburg at 3:30 p.m. The 29-year-old will join team training next week.
