A chat with Johan Micoud was the final selling point - yeah, Ludovic Obraniak wanted to go to SV Werder. "Johan is an icon in Bremen. He is an important contact partner for me and suggested to me the transfer to Werder. We know each other well since we both live in Bordeaux. He said that my playing style fits in with the style of the Bundesliga. We also talked about life in Bremen. He only spoke positively of the people, the city and life in Bremen. That was pretty impressive," said the new acquisition at his official press conference Friday afternoon. The hopes are high that a Frenchman once again can make a name for himself along the Weser - this time, one with Polish roots.

Shortly before the press conference, Obraniak put his signature on a two-and-a-half year contract plus an option for another 12 months. He had already seen Weser Stadium. "It's a nice arena," said the midfielder. The chat with ‘Le chef' Micoud was another good impression. "Werder is a big club, which is also known in France. I am 29 years old now and have until now only played in my own country. I think this point in time is exactly right for a move," said Obraniak.

From now on, Obraniak, who says he can play in every position in the offensive midfield, will provide for creative moments in Werder's game with his left foot. "Ludovic will push us forward on the field. In the offensive midfield, we always had to field a player who did not feel 100 percent comfortable there - whether that was Franco Di Santo or Zlatko Junuzovic. Now we can fill this position with a specialist. He won three big titles in France and also has a certain amount of experience," said head coach Robin Dutt on Friday, looking forward to working with his new player.

Micoud wasn't the only one who helped convince Werder's new acquisition to move to Bremen. His Polish national team colleague Sebastien Boenisch swapped text messages with Obraniak as well. "We got to know each other in the Polish national team. We always had fun because he was actually a German and I was a Frenchman, but both were playing for Poland," said the 29-year-old. "Sebastian just wrote in a message: ‘This is a good club for you.'"
