The scenes that played out about half an hour after the match at BayArena were not new any more but they showed that those with Werder were satisfied with the 2013-14 season after the final 90 minutes of the Bundesliga season. "It's too bad that we were left empty-handed today, but it was a really good away match by us. I didn't need to motivate anybody this week. The team went at it full on from the first training on. And the guys were going after it from the opening whistle. By looking at the hanging heads, you could tell what the team was expecting," said head coach Robin Dutt.

WERDER.DE collected reaction after the match:

Aaron Hunt: "We could have done more today. We wanted to play well against a good opponent. Unfortunately that only happened in stages. It wasn't just like any other match for me. It was something special standing in front of the fan block one more time."

Thomas Eichin: "Of course every team boss will say their fans are the best, but in our case that's really the truth. I have experienced quite a bit but I have never seen anything like this. The support is always fascinating and our fans have really helped us a lot this season. You only have to look at them after we give up goals. They always fire up the team. Or look at the 7-0 loss against Bayern. They didn't really boo us. That made it easier for us to lead the team and I would like to cordially thank them all in the name of all of us."

Clemens Fritz: "We really made things very difficult for Leverkusen for long stretches. You could see in the first half that we can play good football. We played a really good match. In the second half we weren't urgent enough up front and gave Leverkusen too much space. They had a bit more luck. Still, the team deserves a compliment."

Philipp Bargfrede: "We played really well in the first half. We hinted at what we are able to do. After the break, Leverkusen threw everything at us and they absolutely wanted to win the game. That made it difficult. It must be our goal to play like that for 90 minutes."
