Six SV Werder players were in action for their respective national teams Tuesday or Wednesday night and are expected back in Bremen today.

The German national team along with Werder keeper Tim Wiese beat the World Cup record champions Brazil for the first time in nearly 18 years as 54,700 fans in Stuttgart's Mercedes Benz Arena saw Germany win 3-2 in a spectacular showdown. The goals for Germany were scored by Bastian Schweinsteiger (62nd, penalty), Mario Götze (67th) and André Schürrle (80th). Robinho (71st) and Neymar (90th) scored for Brazil.

Werder talents Lennart Thy and Florian Trinks both also were successful for Germany, beating a U21 Luxembourg 1-0 in a friendly match for the U20 German side as part of a training camp in Hennef, Germany. Werder striker Thy scored the only goal of the game in the first half. Germany coach Frank Wormuth swapped the entire team after 45 minutes, as both Bremen players sat after halftime.

Mehet Ekici earned his fifth cap for Turkey as Werder's playmaker was subbed in at halftime against Estonia in a 3-0 victory in Istanbul. Ekici played the entire second half, during which no goal was scored.

Werder defender Sokratis played to a scoreless draw with the Greek national team against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Sarajevo. The test comes prior to Greece's important Euro 2012 Qualifying Group F matches against Latvia and Croatia. Greece lead the group with 14 points.

Werder's new acquisition Aleksandar Ignjovski was in Ukraine playing in the Valeri Lobanovsky tournament in two matches for the U21 Serbian national team. The Serbs lost 2-0 against Uzbekistan on Tuesday and then beat the Israeli U21 team 1-0 on Wednesday.
