And the next Werder player must miss training with an injury as Tim Borowski could not practice with the team Saturday morning after the midfielder received a knock on his foot in the test match against Chemitz and had to be treated for the pain in his ankle.
"The ankle is striking, we have to wait and see when he can return to action," said head coach Thomas Schaaf. In addition to the long-term injured players, Mehmet Ekici (adductors problem) and Denni Avdic (hip) also were out on Saturday. "I will definitely go with the team to training camp. I want to get back as quickly as possible," said Ekici impatiently. Borowski and Avdic will also travel with the team to the training camp in Donaueschingen Sunday morning.
Also part of the travel group after recovering from their ills are Tim Wiese (after gastro intestinal infection) and Marko Arnautovic (cystitis), both of whom worked out with the team on Saturday. All told, 29 Green-White players will fly to Donaueschingen Sunday. Also included in that group are the injured players Naldo, Sebastian Prödl and Claudio Pizarro, who will continue their rehab programs at the training camp. "They will practice as far it's possible. We hope that they can get a step there, even if they are not yet in team training," said Schaaf.
