Werder are putting their full concentration into their up-coming tie with London's FC Chelsea, which could clearly be felt during Monday's training session. On a miserable, dank November afternoon Thomas Schaaf put his players through their paces, with particular emphasis on set pieces. Corners from the right, free-kicks from the left, and vice versa. The lofty figures of tim Borowski, Per Mertesacker and Naldo could often be found lurking in the box - as will hopefully be the case on Wednesday night.
"We halp some important discussions within the team yesterday and we came to the conclusion that we are gonna have to add to our game. Each individual must begin with himself to make improvements", explained striker Miroslav Klose.
One negative point during the afternoon training session was the premature breaking off of training by Christia Schulz: "I did some damage to some left knee ligaments about two weeks ago. Until now I've been able to deal with the pain but it was a lot more intense this morning", commented Schulle, who is still hopeful of getting a place in the team for Wednesday's clash. Definately out of the game against the English champions will be Patrick Owomoyela (ankle injury) and Mohamed Zidan (groin operation). Captain Frank Baumann, who is currently recovering from an achilles problem, will also miss out through suspension.
