Striker Nelson Valdez will not be seeing out his contract at Werder Bremen instead he will make the move to Bundesliga opponents Borussia Dortmund. The announcement was made by the Werder board on Tuesday afternoon. The 22 year old will recieve a four year contract from Dortmund. The transfare fee has not been revealed by either side.
Werder general manager Klaus Allofs commented on the transfare: "Nelson Valdez has continually developed during his time here. His performances have been a part of our success in recent years. Now he'd like a change and we respect that. We wish him all the best along his way."
The Paraguay international who is currently deep in preparations with his national team for the World Cup finals looks back on his time at Werder with great joy: "It was an important part of my career. I can take many wonderful memories of the team and the fans with me."
The move to Borussia Dortmund marks the end of a five year connection between Nelson Valdez and the Green-Whites. Since 2001 the 22 year old has played 80 first team games for Werder scoring 21 goals. He also scored 24 goals in 54 games for the Under 23 side. His greatest success to date was the double win of 2003/2004.
