As part of their trainings camp in Switzerland, the German national side took part in a friendly game against Servette Genf and won the tie 2:1 (1:1). In the 2x35 minute game, Germany took the lead through Michael Ballack in the 26th minute but had his goal cancelled out by a Julian Esteban goal in the 32nd minute. Schalke's Gerald Asamoah won the match for the German side with a strike in the 67th minute.
Altogether the national coach, Jürgen Klinsmann, involved 18 of his 23 man squad during the game. Werder's Miroslav Klose and Torsten Frings were both used but Tim Borowski was allowed to rest up suffering from a cold as were both Christoph Metzelder and Mike Hanke. Keeper Jens Lehmann and Philipp Lahm were also allowed to rest.
"These are purely test games to find our form and work on our movement", explained Klinsmann's assistant Joachim Löw: "During the up-coming friendlies we intend to peice our starting eleven together." The german national team have three further friendlies on the programme before they begin their World Cup campaign on June 9th. The friendlies will be against Luxemburg in Freiburg on May 27th, on May 30th in Leverkusen against Japan and against Columbia in Mönchengladbach on June 2nd.
