The 2004/2005 season sees defender Frank Fahrenhorst move to SV Werder Bremen. The full-back who can leave his current club, Vfl Bochum, on a free transfer at the end of the season completed his signing for Werder Bremen, per fax, on Wednesday, in a move that will keep him in Bremen until 2008. The 26 year old was relieved to have secured his sporting future: "I'm really looking forward to starting in Bremen, they are a very, very good side, I'm sure they will be playing European football next season and this, for me, was decisive. Bremen offer greater prospects".

Werders sporting director Klaus Allofs was delighted with the positive end to the contract talks: "We are very happy that we could convince Frank that Werder is the right place for him.He has proved his strong sporting ability with the "Team 2006" project". Commitee member Allofs was also convinced of Frank Fahrenhorsts' all-round ability: "He's a complete defender".

Team coach Thomas Schaff also commented on the new signing: "He's made the right decision. He has proved himself over the last year as a German International and we are looking forward to having him here. He demonstrated the manner in which he plays well against us. He asserted himself well in the defence and was a threat going forward".

Frank Fahrenhorsts' move to the Weser stadium will mark the end of a ten year playing career with Vfl Bochum. "Fahne", as he's known, moved to Vfl Bochum in 1994 from Vfk Nördbögge in Westphalia. He made his Bundesliga debut in the 1996/1997 season and during his time at the club has endured relegation twice, both times being successfully re-promoted the following season. To date Fahrenhorst has played 86 games in the Bundesliga and been on the score sheet on nine occasions, not including his three goals in 30 appearances in the second division. The 6'3" defender has seven under-21 caps to his credit and played three times in the "Team 2006" selection.
