Werder Bremen won their friendly against second division Karlsruhe SC 2:1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Green-White started their third friendly in Belek with a much changed side to the one which beat Borussia Dortmund.

Thomas Schaaf gave Christian Vander the chance to show his stuff between the posts and allowed the on trial Erlend Hanstveit to play from the start. The midfield was completely changed with Pekka Lagerbloom, Daniel Jensen, Jelle van Damme and Christian Schulz building the foursome across the middle of the park with Nelson Valdez and Aaron Hunt up front. Patrick Owomoyela took on the right back roll with Leon Andreasen and provisional captain Petri Pasanen at the heart of the defence.

KSC coach Edmund Becker was also up for the tie and put out a strong side: Miller, Carnell, Eggimann, Eichner, Kies, Rothenbach, Federico, Schwarz, Männer, Aduobe, Dundee.

Werder were in control of the tie for long periods and especially in the first half, put a nervous KSC side under distinct pressure. Not undeservedly, Nelson Valdez put Werder ahead in the 21st minute, capitalising on a mistake in the KSC defence. The Paraguayean placed the ball between the on-rushing keepers legs. Valdez was in inspiring form after his goal and terrorised the KSC defence. Just after the re-start, Valdez struck again to make it 2:0. The South American profitted from a good combination between Polenz and Hunt (50').

Thomas Schaaf made more second half changes. After Amaury Bischoff came for the injured Pekka Lagerbloom, Kasper Jensen took up the position between the posts with Jerome Polenz replacing Owomoyela and Sebastian Schachten coming for Daniel Jensen. Sean Dundee nodded on a Danny Schwarz corner and Sebastian Freis shortened the deficit to make it 1:2 (70'). Werders defence built on Andreasen and Pasanen stayed strong and gave KSC no further chance to equalise.
