SV Werder fortified its foothold in the Bundesliga’s elite ranks when it blasted SC Freiburg in a spectacular goal firing campaign, executed with precision by Ailton’s shooting twin goals plus Johan Micoud and Ivan Klasnic boosting the dominance with 2 smashing bull's-eye.

Appearing on the pitch on the 10th Bundesliga match day after a home loss against VfB Stuttgart, SV Werder unfolded before a sold-out Dreisam stadium an awesome display of its 4:2 supremacy over SC Freiburg which endured the game only through Alexander Iashivili’s 2 humble shots.

“Launch our offense, invade the frontlines , and never lose sight of the essentials of teamwork”- spoken commandments of Werder’s top gun Thomas Schaaf to his Werder squadron who carried everything out to perfection on the playing field against SC Freiburg. Werder mounted its attack right at start of the match wiping-out any SC Freiburg opportunity to advance its short passing maneuvers. Its fullback wing presented a highly concentrated resistance forcing SC Freiburg in the 1st halftime to sweat and slave their counter-offensive.

Freiburg Overpowered

The Green-White’s initial crack at the goalpost produced its 1st lead of the game. Receiving a pass from Johan Micoud, Ivan Klasnic advanced towards the outer 6-yard goal area, forwarding the ball to Ailton who sank it in the net. Awed and schocked, the host was driven to let the visiting team play to their hearts’ desire.

Ailton performed a solo march towards keeper Richard Golz but unluckily failed along the way (19th). Shortly after, Ivan Klasnic struck a corner but only hit the post’s lower crossbar (21st). SC Freiburg Offense was noticeably missing in action during this phase of the battle. A couple of appearances from Soumaila Coulibaly (9th) and Tskitishvili (20th) provided Werder’s goalie Andreas Reincke dual stretching exercises.

Midfield spotlighted the Green-White’s art of winning aggressive tackling maneuvers before a stadium crowd of 25,000 spectators. Shrieks of jubilation sounded again in the 28th when Ailton landed his 2nd strike. Charging on the field at lightning’s speed, Ailton zoomed through Boubacar Diarra and Oumar Konde who were left behind to watch him finish Richard Golz for the easy 2:0 score. SC Freiburg was wasted and powerless against Werder’s non-stop firing bonanza.

Life returned to SC Freiburg when Diarra rescued teammate Richard Golz from a strike fired by Klasnic that almost landed behind the goal line. Klasnic refired another hit but remained unsuccessful against Freiburg’s final defense.

But then came Werder’s midfield pacesetter Johan Micoud,chauffeured by a beguiling square pass from Fabian Ernst, who delivered Werder’s 3rd goal ending the 1st half with 3:0 victory.

Greater Werder Victory At Hand but....

Noticeably revitalized and reinforced Breisgau’s squad took the early phase of the 2nd half by a storm. They rapid fired their hit-and-run tactics in an effort of crushing Werder’s formidable line of defense. True enough, the 60th minute revealed a weakening of Werder’s armor as proven by a bull’s-eye struck by Iashvili after receiving a pass from teammate Berner who came in as a replacement.

Jubilation for Volke Finke’s SC Freiburg was however short-lived because 5 minutes after, a sneak retaliatory shot was launched by Klasnic to recover Werder’s advantage at 4:1 Victory could have been greater if 3 giga-sized scoring chances were converted to goals by Werder’s trio - Charisteas (80th ) Krstajic (83rd) Micoud (86th).

Excitement could have been heightened if Werder’s keeper Andreas Reinke displaying his super reflex save hadn’t assisted the ball toward his own goalpost from a counterstrike by Berner (76th). But considering all aspects of the match, Werder dominated in Freiburg, it was indeed only Freiburg’s Iashvile who got away to convert his 2nd shot.

This victory elevated Werder to 3rd rank. VfB Stuttgart which won 1:0 against VfL Wolfsburg is momentarily relishing at the summit of the Bundesliga but Bayer 04 Leverkusen can snatch the niche if it wins against Borussia Gladbach on Sunday. SC Freiburg retains its No.9 Bundesliga post.
