It seemed very unlikely that there would be a reunion when Diego left Werder Bremen in summer 2009 to transfer to Juventus Turin. But Diego returns to see old Bremen friends and colleagues on Saturday 4 December 2010 at 3:30 p.m. in a Wolfsburg jersey.

"Of course we know how excellent of a footballer Diego is and that he can always decide a game," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs. As nice as it will be to see his former player, "what we want to do is more important," said head coach Thomas Schaaf at the press conference before the game. After the 3-0 victory against St. Pauli, the Green-Whites are looking for points in the away match in Wolfsburg.

"Things haven’t always gone 100 percent for them as maybe they should have," said Schaaf. "But Diego is not the only one with quality there. They have a lot more. When they find their rhythm they can do some great things." Wolfsburg coach Steve McClaren said of the game: "It is very, very important for the future of everyone here in his club that we win against Werder Bremen." Striker Grafite will not be able to play as he must sit at least two weeks with a muscle tear. And centre back Arne Friedrich is still in rehab training after his long recovery from surgery for a herniated disc. At least Wolfsburg captain Edin Dzeko has recovered from his minor knock at the 1-1 draw in Cologne and has been at team training since Wednesday.
