The fifth division side sealed the oportunity to play against Werder when the 'Press Super Cup' organised by Bremens local newspaper(Bremer Tageszeitung AG). Bornreihe finished third in the table and in doing so just missed out on promotion to the Landesliga Lüneburg for the second season in series. Bornreihe were a single point adrift of second placed SV Drochtersen-Assel but a massive fourteen points clear of fourth placed TuS Güldenstern Stade - statistics which make clear just how close trainer Carsten Hunings side were from promotion.

Good memories of last year

Werder should have good memories of Bornreihe, as for almost exactly a year ago, both sides clashed during Werders pre-season programme. On that occasion, the Green-Whites brushed aside the home side 0:9 in front of 4,000 local fans. Bornreihes Jan Meyerdierks is well known to Werder having played his football at the Weser for five years and was a member of the Werder youth side which won the championship in 1999. Bornreihes director of football Jan Flathmann is extremely happy at the prospect of his side testing their abilities against the Bundesliga giants. "We hope that we can score at least one goal this time and prevent Werder from reaching double figures", commented Flathmann. At Werder right now, everyone is just happy to get going again: "Now everyone can prove themselves again", explained Thomas schaaf who expects a hard but fair fight for places - which also goes for the goalkeepers. In Bornreihe both Tim Wiese and Andi Reinke will play one half each.

The public interest was extremely high prior to the game with over 2,000 tickets changing hands with the help of a local newspaper (Osterholzer Kreisblatt). Tickets are still available on Monday for 4 euros (children 6-16 years) and adults (8 euros), Tickets will also be on sale at the gate for 5 and 10 euros respectively. Bornreihes sport facility holds a capacity of 5,000 spectators.
