A nearly invisible threat is making its rounds in the penalty areas of the Bundesliga, and it sports the jersey of Eintracht Frankfurt. It is Theofanis Gekas, striker for Frankfurt, who come to Weser Stadium on 13 November 2010 to face Werder Bremen at 3:30 p.m.
The Greek international has scored 11 goals in 11 matches. Only rarely has he been detected, and usually it’s been too late. "Eintracht have a successful goal scorer in their ranks who is hitting everything at the moment," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf. The excitement around Frankfurt has not escaped Schaaf, who hopes to end Eintracht’s seven-game undefeated streak, which includes six victories and has Frankfurt in fourth place in the Bundesliga and a spot in the German Cup Round of 16. "They play very well with one another," said Schaaf. His coaching counterpart Michael Skibbe agreed with Schaaf’s assessment, adding the harmony is "both in football style and in fighting spirit".
Still, with all the respect that Frankfurt have earned, they are beatable. "If we can limit them and finally utilize our strengths," said Schaaf at the press conference before the game. "We have seen in training after the 6-0 loss in Stuttgart that a reaction has formed." The Green-Whites want to return to the winning column, and a home victory over Frankfurt should be the start.
