The renovations of the east grandstands are moving along and fans can already see visible progress in the upper levels. Since Monday, workers have been installing the concrete gray seating shells in the upper levels. "We are almost too quick with the fastening of the shells," said Wilfried Rehling, project head of the Weser Stadion GmbH.
There is still a lot of work to get done though. The entire gastronomical area, the sanitary facilities and the entrances to the grandstands are in the development stage. So the upper levels of the east grandstands will not be opened this year.
Further upwards, one of the first roof supports has already been mounted and more will follow in the coming weeks. "Planned is that the roof will be rainproof by the end of the year," said Rehling. The project boss, however, said the Werder players can look forward to their new dressing room still in October. Head coach Thomas Schaaf’s men are currently provisionally using the athletics hall in the south grandstands.
