But the Spurs - Werder's first opponents in the Champions League - were brought back down to earth just 72 hours later. The London side crashed to a totally unexpected 1-0 home loss against a Wigan Athletic team which had collected zero points and a 0-10 goal difference in two previous games. With the defeat, Tottenham dropped to 11th place in the Premier League.
