It is one of those stories that makes football so crazy. Markus Rosenberg would like to leave Werder Bremen to get more playing time. Werder signaled to him that they would be constructive in helping get a deal done. And then the Swedish international scores in the fourth minute of stoppage time to open the door to the Champions League. Still not crazy enough? Then add this fact: "Rosi" was only subbed in because Sandro Wagner was spewing blood after a cut and had to be brought out. "All of a sudden I was told I had to go in quickly. So I went in and scored the goal. It was lucky but I always believed in it. We kept sending long balls into the middle to "Merte" (Per Mertesacker) and (Sebastian) Prödl. I just had a feeling that the ball would land by me. And when it happened I didn’t think much," said Rosenberg after the game.

That goal was sooo important for Werder but it wasn’t the only one of major importance by the Swedish international. "I have scored some goals in the Champions League, but I also scored a goal to secure a spot in the Champions League – back then on the 34th game day when we won 1-0 in Leverkusen and were directly qualified. This goal has to go into that category," added Rosenberg. Still, the goal did not change much for "Rosi" and his situation. "I have told the club that I would like to transfer out because I want to play. It would be a dream to stay at Weder and play regularly. But it doesn’t look like that at the moment. Now I will wait and see if an offer comes in until the end of the transfer period in the coming weeks," said Rosenberg.

Manager Klaus Allofs confirmed the talks with the Swedish striker. "The performance was not a surprise for me because Markus played very well in the preparations after he struggled for quite some time. He had a down year last season. After that he said that he would like to leave us. We agreed – if a fair offer comes in. And we cannot continue to change our personnel plans from one week to the next. But it’s also clear that if he is on the squad and is put onto the pitch that he is a member of the team who has our trust," said Allofs. "We will keep him if no offer comes in. But I certain that Markus showed again today that many teams could use him very much so."
